Re-Defining Victory | Re-Definiendo Victoria

Around our church we have a couple of wooden street signs to let you all know where we are.  This past weekend our signs took a beating, and survived.  We had a huge thunderstorm coming through, and our signs were out there through the wind, the rain, and the lightning.  When I found out our signs were ok, a thought came to my mind.  They were built to endure... When it comes to declaring victory or defeat, we are experts at declaring defeat.  The moment we face the thunder storms of life, we ...

Influence or Influenced | Influencia o Influenciado

Like it or not, admit it or not, there are one of two effects to ALL relationships. We are either Influence or Influenced. That’s why, there is a type of relationship that God Himself is warning us against. Not that we should stay away from these relationships, but He’s warning us NOT to be UNDER their influence. Psalm 1:1 (HCSB) How happy is the man who does not follow the advice of the wicked or take the path of sinners or join a group of mockers! These relationships have three elements. “wicked, sinners, and ...

Keep On Trusting | Sigue Confiando

This week I found myself driving in Downtown Chicago and then drove from Chicago to Rockford, IL.  I've never done this, and by myself, all I had with me was the GPS on my phone.  If my GPS said "turn left", I turned left. If my GPS said "turn right", that exactly what I did.  I had to completely TRUST that it will get me to my destination. In life, inevitably we will go through places we have never visited before. Pregnancy, Child Bearing, Surgery, Cancer, Legal Issues, Divorce, you name it.  We need to have a GPS ...

Productive Afflictions? | Aflicciones Productivas?

I am very happy to be back after a week of vacation with my family.  Yesterday as we boarded the plane, I sat on my seat and dropped the case holding my credit card, Drivers License, etc.  Spent a good part of last night calling credit card companies canceling and re-issuing new ones.  Tomorrow I have to get a new DL. But I'm HAPPY to be back and I can't wait to preach at beloved Stonemill Church Atlanta. If you know just a little about the Bible, you probably know or have heard that the Gospel msg is powerful. ...

Be Patient and NOT to Panic

As I was praying with my team before service last Sunday, we were saying that God WANTS us to be Patient and NOT to Panic.Almost every week we are working with families who are going through difficult situations in their family life, jobs, finances, etc.  Life is very difficult out there, and on top of that we hear in the news terrible things, for example, last night we had yet again another shooting at a movie theater.  Innocent people died in what it is considered one of the safest places ever, at the movies. As we experie...

Jesus was a fisherman

1. There is no other name under heaven, given among mortals by whom we must be saved (Acts 4:12). This is not politically correct, but it is biblical truth straight from God. All the other prophets are dead. Only Jesus lives and is seated at the right hand of God. 2. There are other books claiming to be from God, but they are full of mistakes and contradictions. The Bible has been proven to be accurate in every way. Though not primarily meant to be for scientific fact, when it is given it is accurate. It spoke of the circle of the earth (Isaiah 40:22), when men ...

Sunday School Readings

John 3 is one of the most beloved chapters in the Bible. In verses 1-12 Jesus has been telling Nicodemus repeatedly,"You must be born again". But Nicodemus is baffled by this statement. "How can this be?" he replies (verse 9). Then Jesus rebukes Nicodemus, pointing out that "you people do not accept our testimony" and "you do not believe" (v. 11-12). Then comes verse 13, and Jesus shifts gears and starts talking about himself. He identifies himself as "the Son of Man", a title that the Old Testament used in reference to the Messiah (see Daniel 7:13-14). Jesus also says ...

Family Values

"We can make Jesus more important in our lives by putting Christ in the center of all we do," says Nathaniel, 8. "We do this by finding pleasure in studying God's Word, learning about him and hiding God's Word in our heart that we might not sin against him." The issue in all of life always comes down to this question, "Who is the center of the universe?" If I'm the center, then everything must revolve around me. Living the self-centered life is difficult because I can't always get everyone to conform to my plan for their lives. It's hard taking the place of God, ...
